EBOR AND ISITHEMBISO, CHANGING LIVES ONE STEP AT A TIME
Isithembiso Babies Home is a registered NPO providing a place of security for babies from ages, newborn to three years old who have been abandoned, harmed, neglected or orphaned. Isithembiso exists so that hopefulness can exist for neglected or orphaned babies. They offer a balanced environment for young lives that have had a challenging start. Their aim is to continuously see that babies are placed in compassionate, secure and warm families. Saving Babies since the year 2005, Isithembiso has prepared a safe, healthy and tender family environment for abandoned or orphaned babies. The home is concentrated on having a family type environment as well as having the necessary amount of one-on-one time with each child. Once a child is assigned with their home, he or she is taken care of, by a range of consultants, comprising of paediatricians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and nutritionists.
Since 2005, when the home opened, it has cared for 300 babies. Changing those 300 babies lives. A maximum of 12 children are given sanctuary at a time between the two homes. The reason for this is because at the age of five, the brain has accomplished 90% of its adult size and the child’s responsive, behavioural, cognitive and social base is set for the rest of his or her life. This means that the child requires more extensive care.
Isithembiso has a good relationship with the department of social development and is often visited by a social worker. The organisation relies exclusively on donations and is utterly grateful to all persons and companies who aid in changing young lives. Isithembiso is in the route of adding a group home for orphaned and abandoned children older than the age of 3, increasing their capability to love, heal and support babies. 87% of Isithembiso’s babies have either been assigned to foster, adoptive homes or been brought back together with their families.
